The Cost of Social Media?
Life is not a battlefield.
Life is a game!
And I am here to play it.
Aren't you?!
The game gets even more interesting when we realize there’s a new challenge; an obstacle, if you will…
What’s the latest obstacle?
The latest obstacle is something I am calling a “hypnotized-pull” to scroll on our phones more and more and more and more.
And the pull is getting stronger.
Can you feel it?
We have recognized it for ourselves... and feel quite confident to say that it’s not our smart phones, which are to blame… or even the internet. BUT, rather, social media, which has us somewhat programmed.
Yep, I said it:
Programmed.
Programmed for a dopamine hit.
Programmed for likes.
Programmed to keep scrolling and stay on their platform as LONG as possible.
Programmed for division.
Programmed for outrage.
Programmed...
Under the “trance” of social media?
What happens when we stay trapped in that vicious cycle; trapped in the trance of social media?
We have found that we are LESS LIKELY to pursue projects that are LONGER-TERM and actually meaningful to us.
We are less likely to pursue a project that does not provide instant gratification… projects which entail BIGGER goals, dreams, and visions of what we want our life to actually be like.
Our ACTUAL lives.
Not the online version!
We are not trying to be negative about this.
But we are trying to be real here.
For some people, the addictive nature is becoming unstoppable.
Surely you don't want to write in your journal:
"...today I scrolled on my phone more than any other day! It was, like, a record day of scrolling. I must've scrolled through at least a thousand posts... maybe more?!”
I am guessing you don't aspire to write that and I know I sure don't either.
Yet, social media is DESIGNED to keep us on our devices and on their platforms... scrolling!
Here we are... blowing through the new year...
Doing a lot of the same things and getting a lot of the same results.
Powerful questions to ask yourself
What is social media costing me?
And…
How might my life look different, if I committed MORE to my dreams and passions and engaged in LESS mindless scrolling?
There’s never been a better time to truly evaluate the real cost of social media.
Is it it costing me my compassion? (Harshly judging others for living a life much different from my own...?)
Is it costing me my discernment? (Somehow concluding that I know what's best for other people...?)
Is it costing me my peace of mind?
It sure is pricey ….for a F-R-E-E platform.
