21 Ways to Feel Better, Naturally
At Lifted, we know first-hand how difficult it can be to struggle with the ups and downs of mood issues.
We want to help you feel better, naturally AND FAST.
We also know and believe that feeling good is possible... and it is within our reach.
Our bodies are magnificent!
Here are some of our favorite ways to feel better, naturally.
1. Sunlight.
We were not designed to live our entire lives indoors. Get some sunlight on your skin! Especially embrace the morning sunlight, which helps give you natural energy and properly sets your circadian rhythm into action.
2. Move your body.
Don't overthink it. Just start moving! Do yoga, go on a walk, play a sport, dance, or go hiking. It doesn’t matter what you do or what you look like doing it.
3. Meet your mind.
Try journaling to release tensions, resentment, and heavy emotions. Holding negativity inside is unhealthy. What we resist, persists. Write it, feel it, allow it, and release it…. when you are ready.
4. Create a light-diet.
Reduce your exposure to artificial light at night. Yes, light affects mental health and gut health. Make an effort to step away from your phone, computer, and tablet when you can… especially after the sun has gone down each day. Struggling to reset your circadian rhythm? Our low-dose melatonin supplement can help!
5. Eat for mood
Try to incorporate more whole foods into your daily meals and snacks. Try avoiding extra toxins, preservatives, and food dyes
6. Fat / Protein / Carb
Eating balanced snacks and meals throughout the day will help you feel more like yourself
7. Support balanced blood sugar
Unhealthy glycemic regulation have been shown to be connected to mood issues.
8. Probiotics for mood
Did you know that probiotics can help with mood? Many KEY neurotransmitters are made in the gut (and not in the brain!) We have four probiotics formulated to help with MOOD. Yes, of course… you can also eat fermented foods if you can tolerate them. We also have histamine-free formulas, though, which are handy for many sensitive individuals. Good bacteria in the gut helps the body handle stress. Not enough good bacteria in the gut leads to a host of other problems. It’s all about the bidirectional communication between the gut and the brain!
9. Do something you love
Participate in an activity or surround yourself with people that make you feel alive! Give your heart and soul a dose of happiness every day. Don’t know what you love to do? Then your new task is to seek and discover a few new things you would love to try! This one is one of my favorite “TIPS” because our society so often ignores the soul-aspect of mood issues. Fall in love with life by rediscovering what it feels like to HAVE FUN AGAIN.
10. Intentional breathing
The breath is life. Reap the benefits of focused breaths! To start, deepen your breath through your nose and extend your exhale. This stimulates the vagus nerve, which connects the brain to the body.
11. Make meditation a habit
Make your mental health a priority by becoming the watcher of your thoughts. Get quiet daily and take your energy off the physical and put your attention on the nonphysical. Check out Dr. Joe Dispenza for quality insights on making HUGE changes through meditation. He’s been SUCH an inspiration for me, and I’ve completely changed the way I think about meditation based on his teachings.
12. Remember: you are not alone
Find inspirational text that helps you feel supported and reminds you that you are loved. Suffering can stem from the feeling of being separate. We are infinitely loved and connected. Remember, remember.
13. Be with people
Talking with someone online doesn’t count. Human interaction is essential, and face-to-face conversations are wonderful sources of happiness.
14. Heal old wounds
Practice self-love, self-appreciation, and self-compassion. Something that happened during your childhood or adulthood can have lasting repercussions if we aren't willing to feel it. You are worth the effort this will take.
15. Red light therapy
Have you heard about the benefits of red light therapy? It’s an emerging therapy for a wide variety of uses, including MOOD benefits. Look into it!
16. Practice forgiveness
Anything we are unwilling to forgive is weighing us down. Forgiveness doesn't let "them" off the hook, it lets you off the hook. Forgiveness promotes healing. Practice it. What we practice is what we get good at.
17. Drink water
Does this seem too simple or too easy? Try it anyway. Dehydration never helped anyone feel better, so why not reap the benefits of H2O? Here at Lifted headquarters, we love our Berkey Water Filter.
18. Focus on gratitude.
The mind will default back to worry because it's a protective mechanism. That is — unless you make an intentional shift. Everywhere you look is an opportunity to find new ways to appreciate. For this topic, we like to recommend the book Thank and Grow Rich by Pam Grout.
19. More mind tricks
When a heavy or negative thought pops into your mind, actively allow it and then when you are ready… actively release it. You can try saying: Delete! or Pivot! to yourself or out loud.
Remind yourself: I don’t have to believe everything I think.
Also, try think positively on purpose with an affirmation… For example:
“I am feeling better. I am feeling better and better right now.”
“I am open to creative possibilities for healing and feeling well.”
“Everything is, always has been, and always will be JUST FINE.”
Or, of course, write your own.
20. Study the mind
Study the mind and the way our brain works. Remind yourself that our thoughts are not real, but what's real is our ability to think. Learning how the mind works can untangle you from its grip and allow you to choose new thoughts. The chemistry of ‘thought’ floods our body with chemicals we call emotions. That’s why we talk about the power of thought so much!
21. Believe
Believe in yourself. Believe in your capacity to to feel good.
It's not only possible, but it's your natural state.
Again, what we practice is what we get good at, so put your efforts on what you ‘want’ to be true for you.
We hope you found this list helpful.
Which one was your favorite?
Which one will you try today?
Rooting for you!
